What is Little Sponsor about?

Little Sponsors is specifically designed for children and parents in Hong Kong to sign up for Child Sponsorship together. It allows your children to grow up with and help children in need living in other parts of the world.

Child Sponsorship unites the support of donors, kids and adults alike, to care for needy children around the world. Together, we can provide children with a suitable living environment, access to education, and help them lead a healthy life, develop with confidence and pursue their dreams.

We will match each Little Sponsor with a child sharing the same month of birth. Each Little Sponsor will receive a profile with a photo of the sponsored child and an annual progress report, through which you will find out how your donations are transforming the living environment of your sponsored child, his/her family and community, and enabling sustainable development to take place. Through correspondences or even visits, you will be able to form a special and fulfilling bond and be a blessing for one another.

How may your donation help Poor Children and the Communities through LITTLE SPONSORS?

Through Child Sponsorship programme, World Vision pools the donations of all sponsors into Area Programmes that help sponsored children, their families and community members. We survey the communities where sponsored children live to identify the root causes of poverty and particular needs of each community, before mapping out and running a unique Area Programme alongside community members. Area Programmes include works of various sectors, like water, health, education, livelihoods and child protection, that can improve children's growth environment and empower community members to become resilient, that they would become self-sustainable and be free from the poverty trap.

Empowerment is the most effective way out of poverty

Directly giving money and supplies to sponsored children is not a sustainable and effective way to help them out of poverty. It may also cause divisions or slow down the progress of development, because poverty is a consequence of a lack of resources in the community as a whole.

Our 70 years of development experience has taught us that empowering children and their communities to stand on their own two feet is the best way to make real and lasting change. Therefore, we work closely with community members to implement an approximately 15-year Area Programme, in order to improve sponsored children's growth environment and offer children a chance to thrive.

When the community becomes more established and empowered to lead its own development, we will gradually transfer the ownership of our community development work to local partners and move on to another community in need. This way, we can maximise the impact of your charitable donations and bless more lives.

Little Sponsors will receive…

By becoming a Little Sponsor, you will receive a profile of the sponsored child, a sponsor handbook and a certificate of appreciation. We encourage you to join our sponsor activities to learn more about Child Sponsorship.

Furthermore, in order to learn and practise sharing in life, you may encourage your family and friends to donate instead of giving birthday gifts to you. Your act of charity will help children in need through World Vision and make your birthday more meaningful.
