Loving Mother Nurtures Impoverished Children
"I am grateful to have you as my sponsored daughter, in addition to my own two sons," sponsor Ms Wong says.
Girls in poor countries are often deprived of education and development. As a female, Ms Wong believes that women play an important role in families, to the next generation and development of societies. She hopes to help girls living in poverty thrive and bloom through her small contribution. She has become the sponsor of Vongsa, who lives in Cambodia, since 2009.
"Sponsoring Vongsa is like having an additional daughter, why not?" Ms Wong says gladly. "The money for child sponsorship may not mean much to my two sons, who live in a city of plenty and lack nothing, but it means a lot to children in poverty."
Ms. Wong is always excited to receive letters and drawings from Vongsa.
"Children who grow up in tough situations always have the strongest will and perseverance. With the right education and encouragement, they could bring great contributions to their families and societies, making the world a better place."
Vongsa and Ms. Wong meet each other during the 2014 Sponsor Gathering. Their warm hug speaks a thousand words.
13-year-old Vongsa is the little teacher in her village. She is one of the top students at school and loves to share knowledge with others. At first, her siblings were her only "students" but her class gradually expanded to include kids from neighbourhood and they would study under the tree. Gaining the attention and support of villagers and World Vision, a small classroom was built for them, so children now have a place to learn reading, writing, mathematics and discipline.
Ms Wong keeps regular contact with Vongsa, as she understands that encouragement and complements are vital to a child's growth. Vongsa shared about her family and life in her letters to Ms Wong, who was surprised to see the significant improvement of Vongsa's academic results and living quality. Today she is one of the top students at school, as well as a wonderful friend and a role model to others in her community.

Ms Wong encourages Vongsa, "I am happy for the love and care that you have received from many others. Vongsa, I am proud of you for the changes you have made in any aspects of your life! Keep striving and I will keep cheering for you."
